Why is the man standing in front of the police with his hands up? What is the purpose of doing this? The name of this art piece is called “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot”. The artist of this piece is Tony Shore. The meaning of the piece is that the man is protesting the police. He’s trying to stop police violence especially toward black people. Notice that it’s a black man standing in front of a whole army of white police. The man is standing all by himself in front of these police and, these police are equipped with bats, shields, helmets, and bullet proof vests. All that is not really necessary. The man is all dark and his clothes are a dark shade. The polices faces are white and bright as day. I fell like the artist was trying to show the difference in the skin colors.
